Age aint nothing but a number
Why is social media considered to be a young person’s ‘game’?
Is it because social media hasn’t been around that long on the internet as we know it? Is it because of the persistent marketing trends towards youth? Is it because ‘older’ folk are stereotypically playing catch-up once a social media channel is considered passé by younger audiences?
So many times I’ve heard some say, “…well, my niece is good at TikTok, she could do my socials…”
I also see that because some would allow said young relative to ‘do socials’, they’re also not expecting an experienced social media professional to be paid as a professional?
I’ve seen people secretly smirking at someone who dares to wear their naturally occurring grey hair, making a presentation about social media trends because of bias and stereotyping.
Question; would you really allow your niece to conduct analysis of your company’s data that helps you understand the best time to post that reel?
Question; would you really dismiss years of applicable experience because someone appears to have lived a life prior to the invention of mobile phones?
Somewhere in the middle lies a productive medium. Let’s attempt to find it.
That’s it. That’s all.
