Love local media: press coverage tips to fuel your promotions.

Here're a few quick PR, media coverage tips for filmmakers.

Often when we think about getting our productions promoted in media, we think about much larger players. We want that interview in Variety, or Vanity Fair; Empire or Deadline, but unless your business or product is ground-breaking, it's unlikely that you'll get any immediate coverage from them...if at all.

As you start out and begin to grow your marketing efforts, think more locally about media coverage as part of your promotional, marketing strategies. And even if you get to play with the 'big boys', don't ever forget about local efforts, as we see brands move away from influencers with millions of followers, to micro-influencers who tend to have a more engaged, committed audience.

Additionally, think about some of the themes of your promotion. There could be media which focuses on those themes that you could approach. So, say some of your themes touch on mental health, there may be an outlet that has mental health as its focus. Send them a press release which highlights this to hook them in.

These tactics are true for wherever you are in the world. Just make sure you have your media kits ready to go with lots of content media can use on their own platforms.

Here are some example media you could approach for potential local media coverage.

  • Bloggers (in your area)

  • Local print (there are some still left, also try estate agents)

  • YouTubers

  • Podcasters (in your locale)

  • Local Broadcasters (radio, for example)

Schedule a consultation to talk in more detail about this for your own business.
